“The worst curse to befall anyone is stagnation, the quiet desperation that comes out of a need for conformity.” Deepak Chopra
I came upon this quote and for a moment felt deeply for all the suffering that comes from ignoring what is right for us and instead managing our lives in the hope of securing the approval of others.
You are not here to conform, you are here to express who you are. To do that, you have to be willing to take risks, do what you know it right for you, and sometimes take a walk on the wild side of life. For some the wildest side of life may be simply leaving the comfort of your own home, for others it may pushing your limits on a 100 mile endurance race. You probably fall in the middle somewhere of these opposite ends of wild.
How do you know it is the wild side for you? See if these are familiar:
- Does it push you fear button?
- Are you being called clearly to be something more?
- Is there mystery and unknown in this direction?
- Are you feeling like both running toward it and away from it?
- What is going on with the energy of your body?
- Are there thoughts you need to push yourself forward?
- Do you sense yourself growing from the experience?
- Do you feel more alive?
So once you feel what wild feels like the next step is to move into action. This often means acknowledging the fear and doing what is fearful anyway. Once you step past the bodily contraction of fear, you will feel the energy of aliveness. Go with this flow and see where it wants to take you and what its life lessons are.
There is no right or wrong in this exploration. There will be ways that work well for you and ones that don’t. Explore where you feel most alive and steer away from where you know is more retraction or the old lifeless ways.
Stagnation is you stuck. You are so much more and you do not have to be stuck anymore. Take a chance on believing on yourself enough and take your next wild step into life.
